• History of International Youth Day
  • ​In 1999, the General Assembly endorsed the recommendation made by the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth (Lisbon, 8-12 August 1998) that 12 August be declared International Youth Day.
  • This day is the first time observed on August 12, 2000, the day marks an awareness day and draws attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youth.

Theme for International Youth Day 2023

• Each year, the day is centered around a specific theme that highlights a particular aspect of youth development, such as education, mental health, employment, gender equality etc.

The theme for International Youth Day 2023 is “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World.”

According to the United Nations website, green skills are “the knowledge, abilities, values and attitudes needed to live in, develop and support a sustainable and resource-efficient society.” IYD 2023 will focus on ways in which today’s youth can inculcate and use green skills to facilitate environmentally sustainable decisions in work and in life.

प्रत्येक वर्ष, यह दिन एक विशिष्ट विषय पर केंद्रित होता है जो युवा विकास के एक विशेष पहलू, जैसे शिक्षा, मानसिक स्वास्थ्य, रोजगार, लैंगिक समानता आदि पर प्रकाश डालता है। अंतर्राष्ट्रीय युवा दिवस 2023 का विषय है “युवाओं के लिए हरित कौशल: एक सततता की ओर” दुनिया।”

संयुक्त राष्ट्र की वेबसाइट के अनुसार, हरित कौशल “एक टिकाऊ और संसाधन-कुशल समाज में रहने, विकसित करने और समर्थन करने के लिए आवश्यक ज्ञान, क्षमताएं, मूल्य और दृष्टिकोण हैं।” IYD 2023 उन तरीकों पर ध्यान केंद्रित करेगा जिनसे आज के युवा काम और जीवन में पर्यावरणीय रूप से टिकाऊ निर्णय लेने की सुविधा के लिए हरित कौशल विकसित और उपयोग कर सकते हैं।

विषय उन तरीकों पर प्रकाश डालता है जिनसे स्थानीय, राष्ट्रीय और वैश्विक स्तर पर युवाओं की भागीदारी राष्ट्रीय और बहुपक्षीय संस्थानों और प्रक्रियाओं को समृद्ध कर रही है, साथ ही यह सबक भी देती है कि औपचारिक संस्थागत राजनीति में उनके प्रतिनिधित्व और जुड़ाव को कैसे महत्वपूर्ण रूप से बढ़ाया जा सकता है।
अंतर्राष्ट्रीय युवा दिवस का इतिहास
​1999 में, महासभा ने युवाओं के लिए जिम्मेदार मंत्रियों के विश्व सम्मेलन (लिस्बन, 8-12 अगस्त 1998) द्वारा की गई सिफारिश का समर्थन किया कि 12 अगस्त को अंतर्राष्ट्रीय युवा दिवस घोषित किया जाए।
यह दिन पहली बार 12 अगस्त 2000 को मनाया गया, यह दिन एक जागरूकता दिवस है और युवाओं से जुड़े सांस्कृतिक और कानूनी मुद्दों पर ध्यान आकर्षित करता है।
